there are ants in my bed
little black bodies
easier to spot with movement
i search for them before i climb in
but still i climb in
to be cozy and vigilant
is something i have convinced myself can be done
yet the start of one is the rupture of the other
i've known this
sometimes there are many, and sometimes there are few
that they are here at all
means in my mind they are everywhere
my scalp feels their phantoms most
yet somehow i am convinced that ants are not that bad
on some days they do not even appear
and most days, not in my bed
though they crawl out from the floorboards
to sully the place i lay my head to rest, i am thankful
i welcome the hunt
for i'd rather have ants
than silverfish
